Granny's Attic inaugural project - Granny's old dining chairs
The project that catalysed Granny's Attic into being! Having previously stripped down an old chair with drop-in seat, I assumed that these Edwardian chairs would be the same - wooden base with foam pad underneath the old fabric. Oh, how wrong I was! On closer inspection the seat was constructed completely differently - with webbing and hessian. Both of these had completely frayed and the seats had 'bottomed out', making them very uncomfortable to sit on. The good news was the wadding was in good condition and could be preserved to use with the new seats. With a great deal of banging and hammering, I attached new webbing and hessian, replaced the wadding and covered the seat pads with this gorgeous fabric from The Fancy Silk Store in Birmingham. As these are dining chairs, I treated each seat pad with Scotchgard stain protection. Spaghetti Bolognese, anyone???
